I do not know if you have felt the worried that I feel when I realize that someone of my students is not learning at all although I try to do my best for him. At this moment I a have a student who is giving me this kind of problem. His name is Jairo, and he is 12. I have had so many problems with him from the very beginning, he did not want to participate in class, he annoyed his classmates, he did not do homework and he did not pay attention to my indications. Moreover, It seems he does not like English. I asked him why he was studying it and he says that it was because his father wanted that he learned it with the purpose that he could get a good grade at the ICFES test. I think it is not a good motivation for a child as young as him. However I do not know what I could say him to motivate him to learn, so I tried to encourage him to learn English in another way. I reorganize my class to make it more dynamic for him and the rest of their classmates bringing them some games but, I have been difficult due to I do not have enough time to do all the things I would like since, the class is only two hours long every Saturday . I talked with Jairo’s father with the purpose to let him know about the situation and I asked him to bring to Jairo to take some tutorials to help him to improve. After it, he started to bring me the homework; he started to participate but not so much only in those things in which he was really sure he had the answer because he had already study that in the tutorials. Moreover, his behavior has improved. Nevertheless, I have noticed that sometimes he ignores my indications. When he does not understand something he gives up and he is afraid of making mistakes.
